I Am Stuck

stuck
The space around you feels constrained, your body feels unable to make a move, the thoughts in your mind are running in a downward spiral, and taking a deep breath may seem impossible.

We all have been there, some of us more often than others. So, what can we do when we are stuck? Try these questions:

Is it true?
Look around. Are you really in a small, closed space? How far can you see? Can you stretch your body just a little bit? Maybe just your fingers, or your neck… When we feel stuck, we think of all the things we CANNOT do. What are the things you CAN do right now?

Why is it awesome?
When you think about it, a baby wrapped in a blanket is also stuck and yet this inability to move actually brings him comfort. How can you find comfort in your situation as it is, without changing anything? What are all the good parts about it? Instead of resisting it, allow yourself to surrender to it for just a little while. What can you be grateful for right now?

What do you know for sure?
Think of similar situations in your past when things were not the way you wanted them to be. What helped you move on? What qualities can you see in yourself that proved to be helpful in the past? Maybe it’s your patience, humor, ability to reach for help, faith, creativity, or willingness to give up control.

Staying still and relaxing may be the hardest thing to do when you feel stuck. But it allows you to use your energy for inviting the possibilities rather than for resisting the status quo.
